Preparation of quilt
- Top, well pressed and squared up ready to quilt, no wavy borders. If borders are wavy after you have pressed top, they will be wavy with pleats after quilting! To check for square of top, measure quilt top width in 3 places, top, middle and bottom, measure length in same manner. Quite often when a quilt is out of square and a border has been added, here is your culprit. A variance of up to 1/2″ on any of these measurements can be eased in when quilting, more than that and pleats a hard to avoid.
- Trim all loose threads from front and back of top. If your top has both light and dark material, loose dark threads will show after quilting is complete through the light fabric, better known as shadowing
- Both backing and batting must be a minimum of 4 inches larger than top on all sides, allowing for shrinkage. If backing fabric is seamed, please press seam to one side, pressing open may put more stress on seam when stretched for quilting.
- If tops and backs are not properly squared, trimmed of threads or not pressed and ready for quilting, a service fee will be added.
If quilt top is to have embellishments, please do not add until quilting is done, things like beads, buttons, etc. can and will do damage to the machine and repairs are quite expensive.
